Adherence is defined as the extent to which a person's behaviour coincides with the prescribed recommendations from a health care provider. Rates of adherence to antipsychotics are generally poor in psychiatric patients. Limited research has been conducted to identify strategies that can improve adherence in pregnant women and their offspring. To date, there is no published systematic review examining adherence to antipsychotics in pregnant women and their offspring. This systematic review will examine the existing research on adherence to antipsychotics in pregnant women and their offspring and will present key findings. A mixed-methods systematic review was conducted, with searches performed on the following databases: Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, MEDLINE (PubMed), Excerpta Medica Database, Web of Science, PsycINFO, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Evidence-Based Medicine Reviews, Health Information Research Unit, and Open Grey. No studies were excluded for methodological or other reasons. Papers were included for inclusion if they (1) contained data for pregnant women with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder or their offspring, (2) examined adherence to antipsychotics in a mixed-methods study design, and (3) were published in a peer-reviewed journal. All search results were screened for eligibility by two independent reviewers. From the literature search, 32 studies were included in this review. The primary themes identified in the papers include barriers to adherence, maternal and offspring factors, adherence interventions, and antipsychotic-induced side effects. This systematic review provides a summary of studies examining adherence to antipsychotics in pregnant women and their offspring. There are many maternal and offspring barriers to adherence that can be identified in the literature and potential interventions to address these barriers. Future studies are needed to develop and test adherence-promoting interventions and examine their effectiveness.Gestational diabetes: labor induction rates in the city of Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil. When in'skin mode', the users can click on the image and define 'behavior' that will cause the image to: - hide - scroll (hiding partially or completely) - zoom (hiding partially or completely) - fade (hiding partially or completely) - transform (hiding partially or completely) When in 'host mode', the users can click on the image to open a context menu for the host rectangle and also define how the image area should behave when clicked.
